CURRENT SHOW

New Concept Gallery invites you to join us for the final two shows of our 2024 season. Roger Arvid Anderson’s Adobe Road will feature five new bronzes from his iconic Trailmarkers series, as well as our first exhibit of Anderson’s photography.  Nature, Abstracted will focus on Ann Hosfeld’s expressive abstract paintings of botanical subjects. Although these are separate shows, they will co-exist within the same space, with the works complimenting each other while exploring distinctly different subjects and artistic visions. The exhibits will open from 5-7 PM on Friday, November 22, 2024, where visitors will have the opportunity to meet artist Ann Hosfeld.  Live music will be provided by Petra Babankova on Spanish guitar.

Roger Arvid Anderson
Adobe Road

In a gallery filled with contemporary New Mexican artists, Roger Arvid Anderson often jokes that he is the exception that makes the rule.  Despite being a resident of San Francisco, CA, Roger has long been influenced by the beauty of New Mexico.  For the first time ever, we will be featuring a selection of Anderson’s photographs of Santa Fe, which focus on often-overlooked details and the abstractions created by the play of light, shadow and form. Roger will also be debuting five new bronzes from his iconic Trailmarkers series, with their rich, stone-like textures juxtaposed against high-polish surfaces.

Ann Hosfeld
Nature, Abstracted

A resident of Santa Fe since the early 1980’s, Ann Hosfeld’s art has long been focused on the interpretation of botanical subjects.  In Nature, Abstracted, Hosfeld will be exhibiting a selection of works which portray flora reduced to elemental abstracts of light and darkness, shape and color.  Sometimes subdued, but more often vibrant and expressive, these works serve to showcase Ann’s artistic roots, reflecting the influence of her early years studying under second-generation abstract expressionists at New York City’s Cooper Union School of Art.

Steven A. Jackson & Kathleen Jackson
Shared Visions

New Concept Gallery is pleased to invite you to join us for Shared Visions, the next show of our regular 2024 season. Steven A. Jackson and his wife, Kathleen M. Jackson, have spent countless hours on the back roads of New Mexico and southern Colorado, searching for striking vistas, abandoned structures and long-forgotten ghost towns. Working in distinctly different mediums, the two artists both share a reverence for the beauty of abandoned places. In their art, they work to convey the generational histories of the lives that were lived out in the shelter of now-crumbling walls. Sometimes, their artistic interpretations are parallel, while at other times they perceive the same location in very different ways. Shared Visions will explore both the similarities and differences in their depictions of place.

The exhibit will open from 5-7 PM on Friday, October 11, 2024, where visitors will have the opportunity to meet both artists while enjoying live music by Santa Fe musician Petra Babankova on guitar. The show can be viewed through Saturday, November 16, 2024, at New Concept Gallery, 610-A Canyon Road, Santa Fe, NM. 

Kathleen M. Jackson

Steven A. Jackson
A graduate of Santa Fe’s St. John’s College and the University of New Mexico School of Architecture, Kathleen Jackson has lived in Santa Fe since the mid-1960’s. The scenic vistas and and distinctive buildings of the southwest are close to her heart.

As an artist, Kathy has worked in pastels for many years. Recently, she has found a way to combine her love of sketching with pen and ink with watercolor washes, creating small portraits of the structures and landscapes she and her husband find while exploring the byways and back roads of New Mexico and surrounds.
A resident of Santa Fe for over 50 years, Steven A. Jackson spent the first several decades of his artistic career capturing dramatic black and white images on film and refining the photographs in his darkroom. Since 2006, however, his photography has evolved and is now fully digital, a medium that has given Jackson the freedom to fully realize his artistic vision. Jackson’s subtly toned images reflect his distinctive visual voice, capturing landscapes and aging structures alike with an alluring yet haunting quality. 
New Concept Gallery would like to extend an invitation to join us for the next two shows of our regular 2024 season. Julia Roberts’ Pottery, People and Places will explore the three most common motifs in her hand-pulled prints and pastels, while Western Exposure will feature Linda Petersen’s most recent paintings of the southwestern landscape. These two shows will run concurrently. The exhibits will open from 5-7 PM on Friday, September 06, 2024, where visitors will have the opportunity to meet both artists. The shows can be viewed through Saturday, October 5th, 2024, at New Concept Gallery, 610-A Canyon Road, Santa Fe, NM.

Julia Roberts
Pottery, People and Places

For this year's show, Julia will be showcasing the three motifs that have been predominant in her art over the span of her career. The works displayed will predominantly feature her masterfully executed hand-pulled prints, but will also include a number of monotypes and pastels. Her art reflects the influences of Asian and European printmaking methods, as well as the distinctive palette of her adopted home in the American Southwest.   
Before settling in Santa Fe in 2006, Julia lived in Europe for 16 years, producing her art in various ateliers and master classes in Paris and London. She spent many productive years working with master printmakers at the London Print Studio.

Linda Petersen
Western Exposure

The most traditional of our artists at New Concept Gallery, Linda Petersen renders the distinct landscapes of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona in warm, rich tones. Her oil paintings convey the beauty of the American southwest with grace, showcasing our adobe architecture, crystalline blue skies, sculpted rock formations and oasis-like river valleys to perfection.  This year’s exhibition will see the debut of multiple new works, continuing her recent exploration of larger paintings.

Petersen earned her B.F.A. inDenver in 2001, and spent two summers painting in Italy. Her small plein air studies and larger studio works show a European influence, flavored by her years spent savoring the extraordinary landscapes of the Four Corners region.
New Concept Gallery is would like to welcome you to the second two shows of our regular 2024 season.  Reg Loving’s Artworks Over Time and Cecilia Kirby Binkley’s Nature’s Exuberance will run concurrently, showcasing a broad variety of Loving’s styles and Binkley’s impressionist landscapes. The exhibits will open from 5-7 PM on Friday, August 02, 2024, where visitors will have the opportunity to meet artist Cecilia Kirby Binkley.  Reg Loving also hopes to be in attendance, although confirmation is not possible at this time. The shows can be viewed through Saturday, August 31, 2024

Reg Loving
Artworks Over Time

Reg Loving has been a vital member of the New Mexico art community since the mid-1970s. His work is widely held by museums, public institutions and private collectors alike. Whether he is portraying iconic New Mexican churches, creating abstracted southwestern landscapes or thought-provoking abstracts, Loving’s distinctive style and bold use of color are the common threads woven throughout his body of work.  The incredible variety of his work evolves from Loving’s constant exploration and re-discovery of his identity as an artist.      
 
Artworks Over Time will serve as a survey of some of Loving’s favorite works over the past 30 years, including rarely-shown pieces from the artist’s personal collection.

Cecilia Kirby Binkley
Nature's Exuberance

Cecilia Kirby Binkley’s plein air paintings are intuitive and exhilarating translations of nature and the landscapes of New Mexico and southern Colorado.  She is compelled to paint by the desire to capture the expression, movement and color of the landscape.  Binkley uses a small canvas to quickly encapsulate a natural scene, and then, if she finds the plein air piece sufficiently compelling, she may choose to revisit the scene in a larger studio painting.  The smaller works become the inspirational foundation for her large canvases:  However, the larger pieces are also largely created from her memories, not just of the scene, but also of the full experience of creating the plein air painting. 

Nature’s Exuberance will include many of Cecilia’s most recent works.

Stine’s Take Me to the River will showcase two distinctly different Santa Fe artists. The exhibits will open from 5-7 PM on Friday, June 28, 2024, where visitors will have the opportunity to meet artist Daniel D. Stine. The shows can be viewed through Saturday, July 27, 2024.

Douglas Atwill
Recent Paintings

Douglas Atwill has been a fixture in the Santa Fe art scene since the late 1970s. He paints in acrylics, usually on the primed linen canvas he prefers. His subjects range from the New Mexico landscape of mesas, escarpments and mountain scenes to verdant corners of his own garden. Atwill's work is widely held in numerous personal collections, and is also displayed on corporate and museum walls across the country. A prolific and disciplined artist, Douglas often completes fifty or more paintings each year. This year’s show will feature a blend of Atwill’s most recent garden paintings, southwestern landscapes and floral still life.

Atwill is also well known in Santa Fe for his work as a designer and builder.  He is the author of a dozen books, including novels, short stories, memoirs and poetry. 

Daniel D. Stine
Take Me to The River

This current collection of paintings by Daniel D Stine are tributes to wanderlust and experiencing the bounty of New Mexico. His work captures the awe one feels as they turn a corner on a hike, when one remembers to slow down at the golden hour or experience the gift of the night sky. The subjects of these pieces are the land, sky, and sensations that exist in between.

Stine attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago graduating with a BFA in Art History in 2007. He is an avid traveler and gets much of his inspiration from the landscapes he explores and the people he meets. Daniel has studied and practiced his art in Flagstaff, Arizona; Chicago, Illinois; Detroit, Michigan; and Prague, Czech Republic. He currently resides just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, with his partner in their home by the Pecos River.

New Concept Gallery is delighted to invite you to join us for Wild Heart, a rare two-month spring exhibition featuring guest artist Calla Klessig Sentić. The show will open with a meet-and greet reception with the artist from 5-7 PM on Friday, April 5, 2024. The exhibit can be viewed through Saturday, May 25th, 2024, at the New Concept Gallery, located at 610-A Canyon Road, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Calla Klessig Sentić

Showcasing a mastery of color and texture, Calla Klessig Sentić’s work reflects her deep love and reverence for the land and sky, as well as the inhabitants of these magical spaces. Her latest collection of paintings are an expression of her reconnection with the natural world and with the elements. They tell the story of her return to a deeper relationship with the wild lands, and with the wild being within herself. Calla’s richly textured paintings go beyond the act of depicting a single moment, seeking instead to capture the wild spirit of these enduring landscapes. 

Calla is a perpetual student of color and light, of the moods and vagaries of the weather. She gathers much of her inspiration by immersing herself in the extraordinary landscapes of her adopted home in the Southwest, as well as her travels throughout the world.

Showing artistic tendencies from a young age, Calla began oil painting at age 8, beginning her lifelong love of painting, art, and design. Calla attended the Maryland Institute, College of Art, graduating with a BFA. She went on to have a fulfilling 17-year career in the American film industry, where her work as an Art Director served as a vital 3-dimensional compositional counterpoint to her fine artworks. Despite her success, Calla continually heard the call of her first love — painting.

After many exploratory trips to the Southwest, Calla eventually left her home in the Los Angeles area and moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. After spending a few years immersed in the dramatic skies, golden light and high desert landscapes of her new home, she made the bold choice to leave her career in film to paint full time. Calla, her husband, and their pup River can be found out in nature every chance they get, savoring the Wilds of this amazing world.
