Elen Feinberg
A native of New York City, Elen Feinberg has lived and painted in New Mexico since 1978. Working primarily in oil, she uses subjects ranging from the landscapes of the desert Southwest to oceans, and from atmospheric events to interstellar phenomena. Although inspired and informed by the natural world, her paintings are not literal interpretations of the earth and sky, rather they are inventions intended to shift nature and the visual world from the concrete to the sublime. Elen’s work is included in numerous museum and corporate collections in the US. She has held several artist-in-residence grants both here and abroad and she is the recipient of numerous awards from prestigious organizations such as the NEA, the Ingram Merrill Foundation, and the Fulbright Foundation. Since her retirement as a Regent’s Professor at the University of New Mexico, where she taught drawing and painting for over 30 years, Elen has pursued the themes that have been at the center of her paintings for four decades: earth, water, sky, and our perception of light. Elen received her BFA from Cornell University and her MFA from Indiana University. Feinberg & Galloway is her first show at New Concept Gallery. |
Woody Galloway
Woody Galloway has made his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico since 1962. Galloway lives his life with the belief that we are surrounded by beauty, and that all life is sacred and unfolding. Perhaps as a direct result of this philosophy, Woody finds that his life is filled with beauty and wonder. With camera in hand, he has spent countless hours exploring the landscape of northern New Mexico, taking in the glory of the late afternoon sun on the cliffs overlooking Ghost Ranch, the wildness of the Chama River near Abiquiu, the tranquil silence of a crystalline winter morning on the shores of the Rio Grande near Pilar. Many of Galloway’s most iconic images reflect his willingness to venture forth into the storm at times when most of us would prefer to curl up by the fire with a cup of coffee and a good book. Woody learned to savor the beauty of the waters, trees and wind as a young boy growing up in the Ozark Mountains of northwestern Arkansas. There, Galloway was raised on a 400-acre playground in the company of 55 brothers and 38 sisters, his family at St. Joseph’s orphanage. It was here he first learned to see and feel the wonders of nature and people, to appreciate the profound impact of experiencing and sharing hope and joy. For many, Woody Galloway’s photographs serve as treasured reminders of their time in New Mexico. His work is widely held in both public and private collections, has been featured on the cover of the Santa Fean magazine, and has been shown in the Governor’s Gallery at the New Mexico State Legislature. Galloway has been represented by New Concept Gallery since they opened in 2007. |

Daniel D. Stine Daniel D Stine’s unique landscape paintings have been on display throughout the Mid and Southwest. Born in Mesa Arizona, he began creating art from an early age and has used the process of creation as a tool for relaxation and mediation from the beginning. Growing up in the desert, with its wide-open skies and subtle colors, he developed an artistic perspective that combines detail with a sense of space. All of his paintings are meditations on the subject mater often taking months to complete. Daniel hopes that viewers will not only be moved, but also experience sensations related to the space, be it temporal or textural. He attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago graduating with a BFA in Art History in 2007. Daniel is an avid traveler and gets much of his inspiration from the landscapes he explores and the people he meets. Daniel has studied and practiced his art in Flagstaff, Arizona; Chicago, Illinois; Detroit, Michigan; and Prague, Czech Republic. He currently resides outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico by the Pecos River with his partner and cats Baast and Wybie. Stine and Jackson will be Daniel D. Stine’s first exhibition on Canyon Road. To celebrate, Stine will be participating in the Historic Canyon Road Paint and Sculpt Out from 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, October 21, 2023. |
Kathleen M. Jackson
A graduate of Santa Fe’s St. John’s College and the University of New Mexico School of Architecture, Kathleen Jackson has lived in Santa Fe since the mid-1960’s. The scenic vistas and and distinctive buildings of the southwest are close to her heart. As an artist, Kathy has worked in pastels for many years. Recently, she has found a way to combine her love of sketching with pen and ink with watercolor washes, creating small portraits of the structures and landscapes she and her husband find while exploring the byways and back roads of New Mexico and surrounds. Stine and Jackson will showcase many of her most recent works, accompanied by a selection of her larger pastels. |

Cecilia Kirby Binkley
Cecilia Kirby Binkley’s plein air paintings are intuitive and exhilarating translations of nature and the landscapes of New Mexico and southern Colorado. She is compelled to paint by the desire to capture the expression, movement and color of the landscape. Binkley uses a small canvas to quickly encapsulate a natural scene, and then, if she finds the plein air piece sufficiently compelling, she may choose to revisit the scene in a larger studio painting. The smaller works become the inspirational foundation for her large canvases: However, the larger pieces are also largely created from her memories, not just of the scene, but also of the full experience of creating the plein air painting. Cecilia’s large works are rich in texture, created with the application of heavy oil paint and the palette knife. If her paintings elicit joy and thoughtful response, Binkley knows that her work has been successful. |
Reg Loving
Reg Loving has been a vital member of the New Mexico art community since the mid-1970s. His work is widely held by museums, public institutions and private collectors alike. For this month's one-room show, Loving will be showing a selection of his favorite works from the past 20 years, with an emphasis on pieces that showcase his versatility. Whether he is portraying iconic New Mexican churches, creating abstracted southwestern landscapes or thought-provoking abstracts, Loving’s distinctive style and bold use of color are the common threads woven throughout his body of work. The incredible variety of his work evolves from Loving’s constant exploration and re-discovery of his identity as an artist. |

Linda Petersen
The most traditional of our artists at New Concept Gallery, Linda Petersen renders the distinct landscapes of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona in warm, rich tones. Her oil paintings convey the beauty of the American southwest with grace, showcasing our adobe architecture, crystalline blue skies, sculpted rock formations and oasis-like river valleys to perfection. Petersen earned her B.F.A. in Denver in 2001, and spent two summers painting in Italy. Her small plein air studies and larger studio works show a European influence, flavored by her years spent savoring the extraordinary landscapes of the Four Corners region. The works featured in Petersen & Roberts include several new paintings in a larger scale than what Linda has created in the past. |
Julia Roberts
For this intimate one-room show, Julia will be showcasing the works that first brought her acclaim here in Santa Fe: her exquisite hand-pulled prints inspired by the traditional motifs of Pueblo pottery. Roberts’ prints pay homage to the patterns and themes of indigenous artisans, while being careful not to copy their original designs. Before settling in Santa Fe in 2006, Julia lived in Europe for 16 years, producing her art in various ateliers and master classes in Paris and London. She spent many productive years working with master printmakers at the London Print Studio. Her masterfully executed hand-pulled prints show the influences of Asian and European printmaking methods, as well as the distinctive palette of her adopted home in the American Southwest. |

For nearly five decades, Jane Abrams has lived & worked in the village of Los Ranchos, a quiet community nestled in the Rio Grande valley near Albuquerque, New Mexico. A lifetime of travels has seen Jane explore the globe, wandering through ancient ruins and jungles of Mexico and Central America and along riverbanks in India. Other journeys have taken her to the mountainous regions of China and Thailand, as well as to the Netherlands and Spain. She has also spent countless hours walking the paths through the bosque along the Rio Grande, along acequias, desert spaces and familiar fields near her New Mexico home. The widely varied foliage of these diverse locales serves as her inspiration, empowering her to create richly detailed paintings of botanical subjects. Her imaginative paintings are often wild in their complexity, with an atmosphere of otherworldly locales.
Abrams’ mastery of her art has been widely recognized, with her work exhibited extensively in both gallery and museum settings. She has been honored with a multitude of artist residencies in both the United States and abroad. She has also received recognition through numerous prestigious awards including a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant and two senior National Endowment for the Arts grants. Abrams is Regents’ Professor Emerita from the University of New Mexico, where she taught in the Department of Art from 1971 until 1993. |
Douglas Atwill has been a fixture in the Santa Fe art scene since the late 1970s. He paints in acrylics, usually on the primed linen canvas he prefers. His subjects range from the New Mexico landscape of mesas, escarpments and mountain scenes to verdant corners of his own garden. Atwill's work is widely held in numerous personal collections, and is also displayed on corporate and museum walls across the country. A prolific and disciplined artist, Douglas often completes fifty or more paintings each year.
Atwill is also well known in Santa Fe for his work as a designer and builder. He is the author of over a dozen books, including novels, short stories, memoirs and poetry. |
