Linda Petersen
- Seasons of the Southwest November 12, 2021 - December 11, 2021 Opening reception: Friday, November 12, 2021 5-7 P.M. New Concept Gallery welcomes you to the final exhibit of our 2021 season, a solo show by landscape artist Linda Petersen. The opening reception will be held from 5–7 PM, on Friday, November 12, 2021, at New Concept Gallery. The show will be on view through December 11, 2021. The most traditional of our artists at New Concept Gallery, Linda Petersen renders the distinct landscapes of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona in warm, rich tones. Her oil paintings convey the beauty of the American southwest with grace, showcasing our adobe architecture, crystalline blue skies, sculpted rock formations and oasis-like river valleys to perfection. Petersen earned her B.F.A. in Denver in 2001, and spent two summers painting in Italy. Her small plein air studies and larger studio works show a European influence, flavored by her years spent savoring the extraordinary landscapes of the Four Corners region. The works featured in Seasons of the Southwest pay homage to the constantly changing play of light, shadow and color that makes this area so unique. |

- Shared Histories October 8, 2021 - November 6, 2021 Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided that there will be no opening reception for this show. In compliance with current state mandates, masks are required for all individuals visiting the gallery, regardless of vaccination status. New Concept Gallery would like to invite you to immerse yourself in Shared Histories, a two-artist exhibition featuring New Mexican artists Aaron Karp and Reg Loving, opening on Friday, October 8, 2021, at New Concept Gallery. There will not be an artist’s reception: however, the entire exhibit will be viewable online on our website starting Sunday, October 17, 2021. The show runs through Saturday, November 6, 2021. Reg Loving and Aaron Karp have known each other since 1979. They often spent time together during the 1980s and 1990s, a vibrant period in the New Mexico arts scene. In their frequent conversations they had numerous and formative discussions about art and life. Over the years, they often showed their work in the same galleries, including Janus Gallery in Santa Fe, Sebastian-Moore and Robischon Galleries in Denver, and PM & Stein in New York. As one of the first artists to join New Concept Gallery, Reg Loving was instrumental in bringing Aaron Karp into our family of artists. With a body of work spanning over 40 years, Aaron Karp has exhibited works in galleries and museums throughout the United States, including the prestigious Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in NYC. His résumé includes over a dozen grants and residencies in the United States and abroad, and participation in over a hundred solo and group exhibitions. Aaron’s work is widely held in both corporate and private collections, as well as the permanent collections of numerous museums. Karp’s paintings function on the level of pure perceptual phenomena-as statements about color, line and movement-as complex and inventive commentaries about the visual stimuli generated by the worlds of nature and art. In Shared Histories, Karp will be showcasing new works from his “Star Clusters” series, as well as select older works. Versatility is Reg Loving’s hallmark as an artist. Whether he is portraying iconic New Mexican churches, creating abstracted southwestern landscapes or thought-provoking abstracts, Loving’s distinctive style and bold use of color are the common threads woven throughout his body of work. The incredible variety of his work evolves from Loving’s constant exploration and re-discovery of his identity as an artist. The art featured in Shared Histories is a micro-retrospective of works created during his 14-year tenure at New Concept Gallery. |
Jane Abrams
- Searching for Beyul September 3, 2021 - October 2, 2021 Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided that there will be no opening reception for this show. In compliance with current state mandates, masks are required for all individuals visiting the gallery, regardless of vaccination status. New Concept Gallery is delighted to invite you to experience Searching for Beyul, a solo exhibit showcasing the talent of renowned New Mexico artist Jane Abrams. The show will also see the debut of Abrams' book of the same name, which presents over six dozen examples of her work spanning her artistic career, with representative pieces from every major period.
In the introduction to her book, Abrams writes, "Ancient Sanskrit texts tell of hidden lands high in the Himalayas, abounding in vegetation and wildlife found nowhere else on Earth. The ancient words tell of wild rivers encircling mountain peaks and majestic waterfalls that guard the entrance to what is believed to be the mythical place of 'Beyul', a Tibetan word referring to a place where the physical and spiritual worlds mingle. "As I venture beyond my studio, whether the destination is the jungles of Costa Rica, forests of Maine or the fields and acequias near my home in New Mexico, I think of the hidden places spoken of in the historic writings. I observe the plants where I am as though they were the mythical residents of Beyul. My continuing thoughts of 'Beyul' over the years have spawned an ongoing group of paintings depicting larger than life plants and the magical places they inhabit. My intent is for the paintings to be that place where the physical and spiritual worlds mingle." |

- Reawakening July 30, 2021 - August 28, 2021 Opening reception: Friday, July 30, 2021 5-7 PM New Concept Gallery welcomes you to “Reawakening,” a solo show featuring new works by abstract expressionist artist Kathleen Doyle Cook. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artist at the opening reception, which will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021, from from 5-7 PM. The show will be on view through Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the New Concept Gallery, 610 Canyon Road, Santa Fe, NM. This is a show of new paintings that reflect reawakening and new beginnings. These non-figurative images have their origins in hope and possibilities. They invite the viewer to search for meaning and connection. Inherent in all the works are sensuous surfaces created from the act of painting. These surfaces evolve from color, composition and the energy produced by layers of media and brushwork. The notion of "Quality Time Remaining" is ever present. The titles of the paintings have their roots in the book, Your True Home, by Thich Nhat Hanh. |
