We are undeniably living in unusual times, and it has impacted each of our artists in different ways. For Cecilia Kirby Binkley, it has meant she is spending more time than ever in the mountains among her beloved aspens. There, she is free to savor the play of light on a summer afternoon and further her quiet, peaceful connection with nature. As an artist, she has capitalized on this, learning to see in new ways and to change her perspective on familiar scenes. The result is a vibrant, multi-seasonal group of new plein air and studio works. In her fall show at New Concept Gallery, these are featured alongside favorite pieces from recent years. |

His works, with their complex layers of intricate geometric forms and vibrant color, invite viewers to lose themselves in the depths of Aaron’s vision. When describing his work, Aaron says, “The work is about concealing and revealing. It is about the fracturing of color & space, about looking at and into something to extract information and meaning.” In May of 2019, Aaron was invited to participate at Tao Hua Tan, an International Artist-in-Residency in Anhui Provence, China. While he was there, he began working on a group of paintings that were subsequently titled China Rain & Other Storms. These works form the core of this years' show, which will also showcase significant works from the past three decades. |
Steven A. Jackson: "Artifacts"
- Photography June 26, 2020 - July 25, 2020 No opening reception will be held in compliance with current social distancing guidelines. New Concept Gallery is pleased to invite you to join us for ARTIFACTS, featuring works by Santa Fe photographer Steven A. Jackson. The second in our series of virtual shows, the full exhibit will be available for viewing on our website under the "Virtual Exhibitions" tab. For those who prefer to view the artwork in person, the gallery is currently open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12 Noon until 5 PM. Private showings are also available by appointment at New Concept Gallery, 610 Canyon Road, Santa Fe, NM, 87501. The dictionary defines an Artifact as, “...an object made by a human being, typically an item of cultural or historical interest.” Steven A. Jackson photographs his subjects with an intrinsic awareness of the rich history encapsulated in crumbling adobe walls and weathered wood. Whether depicting an aging structure that is still in occasional use, or the near-skeletal remains of a building that has been abandoned for the better part of a century, the photographs invite the viewer to imagine the stories that played out within the walls. As a whole, the images selected for ARTIFACTS convey the weight of time and the passing of generations. Jackson’s background is in traditional “wet” black and white photography, but all his recent work has been totally digital – utilizing the genre’s ability to create a subtle use of color that is reminiscent of toned black and white images. Steven A. Jackson has lived in Santa Fe for over fifty years and has shown frequently at New Concept Gallery, along with many shows elsewhere in New Mexico and beyond. His work is in numerous private and public collections. |
Ann Hosfeld
- Tropical Variations May 22, 2020 - June 20, 2020 No opening reception will be held in compliance with current social distancing guidelines. New Concept Gallery is pleased to invite you to join us for our first virtual show, an exhibition of paintings by Santa Fe artist Ann Hosfeld. The full exhibit will be available for viewing on our website under the "Virtual Exhibitions" tab. The show may viewed in person during limited gallery hours at New Concept Gallery, 610 Canyon Road, Santa Fe, NM, 87501. Currently, the gallery is open from 12-5 PM on Fridays and Saturdays only In 1962, Ann Hosfeld graduated from the Cooper Union Art School in New York City, where she studied primarily with the second-generation Abstract Expressionist artists. After working in New York galleries for a number of years, she moved to Los Angeles in 1968. There, she was captivated by the lush tropical plants that surrounded her. This fascination expanded during her numerous trips to Puerto Vallarta and the banana plantations of Yalapa, and she started sketching and painting extensively while on her trips. While many of these early works were realistic, her work evolved to feature abstracted imagery of natural forms, with an emphasis on the interplay of light and shadow shapes. Tropical Variations will be the first show at New Concept Gallery to focus on these early works created in Los Angeles and Puerto Vallarta. The show will feature several works from the private collection of the artist, including many which have never been exhibited. |
