Roger Arvid Anderson has been casting bronze for over 45 years. Creating his bronzes at Artworks Foundry in Berkeley, California, he works side-by-side with foundry artisans throughout the process, from the pour to welding to the final patina. His current work builds on the stone-like textures and patinas that have inspired him for years.
When asked to describe the inspiration behind his latest bronzes, Roger said, “Stacking stones in solitary piles or arranging them in circles and rows is one of mankind’s earliest art forms. Megaliths meet a primal sculptural need to commemorate human and cosmic events. In today’s terms, erecting my bronze megaliths is my way of marking my own trail across the earth and through the heavens. I invite you, the viewer, to assign your own stories to these mystical and mysterious shapes.”
