GUEST ARTIST - LISA P. LAWRENCE
A resident of northern New Mexico since 1982, guest artist Lisa Porter Lawrence moved from Santa Fe to Taos in the summer of 2023. Since that time, she has been captivated by her new home and the distinctive high desert landscapes that surround it.
When Lawrence moved to Taos, she resolved that she would resist the urge to paint the Rio Grande Gorge, convinced that the oft-portrayed subject had surely been rendered far too many times by the multitude of artists that had come before her. However, every time she topped the horseshoe climb from the south on Highway 68 when approaching Taos, the view of the gorge snaking across the plain like a miles-long sidewinder took her breath away. She soon laid her reservations aside and responded to the gorge’s call, interpreting the site in her own distinctive style. New Concept Gallery is pleased to share six of Lawrence’s lively paintings of the iconic Rio Grande Gorge. Her work will be on display from Wednesday, May 29th through Tuesday, June 25, 2024. |
