New Concept Gallery is excited to announce our next show, Backroads and Byways, featuring the work of Kathleen M. Jackson and her husband, Steven A. Jackson. The Jacksons have spent countless hours exploring the backroads of New Mexico and southern Colorado, documenting long-forgotten ghost towns, abandoned structures and the distinctive landscapes and towering skies of the region. Although they work in different mediums, the two artists both share a reverence for the beauty of abandoned places. In their art, they work to convey the generational histories of the lives that were lived out in the shelter of now-crumbling walls. Often, their artistic interpretations depict the same location in very different ways.
Kathleen M. Jackson
A graduate of Santa Fe’s St. John’s College and the University of New Mexico School of Architecture, Kathleen Jackson has lived in Santa Fe since the mid-1960’s. The scenic vistas and and distinctive buildings of the southwest are close to her heart. As an artist, Kathy has worked in pastels for many years. Recently, she has found a way to combine her love of sketching with pen and ink with watercolor washes, creating small portraits of the structures and landscapes she and her husband find while exploring the byways and back roads of New Mexico and southern Colorado. |
Steven A. Jackson
A resident of Santa Fe for over 50 years, Steven A. Jackson spent the first several decades of his artistic career capturing dramatic black and white images on film and refining the photographs in his darkroom. Since 2006, however, his photography has evolved and is now fully digital, a medium that has given Jackson the freedom to fully realize his artistic vision. Jackson’s subtly toned images reflect his distinctive visual voice, capturing landscapes and aging structures alike with an alluring yet haunting quality. |

In celebration of the artist’s 80th birthday, New Concept Gallery is pleased to present a retrospective exhibition showcasing nearly five decades of Roger Arvid Anderson’s artwork. Anderson will join us for an opening reception on Friday, August 14, from 5-7 PM, one week after the show opens. Live music will be provided by Santa Fe-based classical guitarist Petra Babankova. The show can been viewed through Sunday, September 6, 2026, at New Concept Gallery, 610-A Canyon Road, Santa Fe, NM.
About the artist: Roger Arvid Anderson
Minnesota native Roger Arvid Anderson has lived in San Francisco, California, since 1972. A multi-disciplinary artist, Anderson’s primary mediums are bronze sculpture and photography. He is also an accomplished poet. As a sculptor, Roger takes a “hands-on” approach to each step in the process, actively participating in the mold-making, casting, finishing and patination of each of his bronzes. In recent decades, Anderson’s artistic vision has been dramatically influenced by the beauty of New Mexico. RetroSpective will display a selection of Anderson’s works from the late 1970s through the current year, to include numerous bronze sculptures, as well as recent photographic studies of Georgia O’Keeffe’s Abiquiu studios and abstracted images of Santa Fe.
