Upon retirement from a lifelong career as a scientist, Richard Swenson started creating whimsical sculptures finding inspiration from parts of old farm machinery. As an artist he is well known in Mississippi and New Orleans, specializing in “found un-altered objects” for his metal sculptures. His art includes both animals and abstract works, both small and very large pieces including handsomely realized lifesize giraffes and horses.
His sculptures have been shown at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum in Baton Rouge, the Longue Vue House & Gardens in New Orleans and are in numerous public buildings and commercial facilities.
