PAUL SHAPIRO - Guest ArtistNew Concept Gallery is pleased to introduce our guest artist for 2026 – photographer Paul Shapiro. Splitting his time between Santa Fe, New Mexico and Washington state's Whidbey Island, Shapiro feels a deep connection to the wild beauty of these distinctly different locales, seeing the commonalities in their ancient and enduring characters.
“My passion for the natural world is the inspiration for my work,” says Shapiro. “I pay particular attention to scale, capturing the shared connection between people and the environment, and the breadth and depth of our wild and often fragile landscapes. I also have a deep interest in Native sites and hope to capture the multi-layered, mysterious, beauty of these sacred places— as well the enduring lessons they leave behind. “My past work includes teaching film and photography, creating documentary films, and doing photo exhibitions in the Northwest and Southwest. I now spend most of the year in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I enjoy hiking the local trails and traveling around the Southwest with my wife, my camera, and my dog, Roxy.” Photographs are exhibition quality archival prints on Epson Hot Press Bright Paper. The deckled edge photos are printed on Fabriano Paper. |
